Iconic Dallas Granada Theater sells to New York based wellness brand

The Granada Theater and Sundown at Granada have been sold to wellness brand Bathhouse, according to the owners.

Mike Schoder and Julia Garton announced the sale and closing of the venue on Friday. The restaurant’s final day will be Nov. 1, and the theater will host shows through April 17, 2027.

“For 22 years at Granada and 15 years at Sundown, we’ve poured our hearts into these places, the music, the people, and the thousands of unforgettable nights and memories made within their walls. Walking away isn’t easy. But sometimes knowing when to turn the page is as important as knowing when to start the story,” they said in a statement.

In a statement, the owners cited rising costs, shifting audiences and corporate consolidation as contributing to the decision to sell.

The theater opened in January 1946 with the film, “Mildred Pierce,” according to the website. It changed hands several times before Schroder and Garton bought the theater in 2004. The restaurant was later opened in 2012.

The partners said they turned down several developers and searched for a way to keep the music playing, but found a future for the space with Bathhouse.

Bathhouse is a social wellness brand founded in New York by Jason Goodman and Travis Talmadge in 2019. They have plans to expand to Philadelphia, Los Angeles and Chicago.

Talmadge told our partners at The Dallas Morning News that the exterior of the theater will remain unchanged when it reopens in mid-2028.

“Granada brought people together through music. Sundown through food, drinks, and friendship. Bathhouse will bring people together through wellness, relaxation, and connection. Different experiences, but the same spirit of community,” Schoder and Garton said in the statement.

The closing of the historic venue is one of the many departures from Lower Greenville in recent years. Notably, Dallas staple Blue Goose Cantina’s Greenville Avenue location closed in 2023.
